In this session we will explore the Curb and Compass which are essential building blocks for engaging in the risky adventure of relationships as followers of Jesus, especially ministers and church leaders. We all need to develop our EmQ or empathy intelligence by slowing down to sit on the curb of life. Mentors act as points on the compass helping orient us to know which way is North, South, East, and West. But a compass is only useful if we know where we intend to go, so what core values act as the gravitational pull of your open hands (humility), being present with grateful positivity (gratitude), and seeing others with uncluttered clarity (simplicity) are the gravitational center of my relationship compass.

Psalm 23 has long been a favorite of believers who seek an intimate relationship with God. It is beloved for its comforting imagery of God as a shepherd, guiding and protecting His people. It speaks of peace, provision, and unwavering divine care, offering reassurance in difficult times. Its message of hope and trust in God’s presence make it a timeless source of peace and strength. Each morning during Harbor we will reflect together on this great prayer and worship together to start our day.

In the gospel of Matthew, we explore the gospel writer’s emphasis on scriptural fidelity in addressing a primarily Jewish Christian audience, while at the same time highlighting Jesus’ sparking of new imagination in how we view and apply scripture in this new Kingdom Reality. As church leaders and members, we will explore Missional themes and postures in these two emphasis’ in Matthew, as well as practical implications for the church today - an outpost of the in-breaking Kingdom of Heaven.

This class will explore how Paul discovered a peace that did not rise and fall with the unpredictable winds of life, whether he stood in need or sat in abundance. His journey to the inward center of peace was not merely a triumph of endurance. It was a sacred pilgrimage of spiritual formation, a deep and deliberate study in a curriculum not sanctioned by the Roman Empire, nor approved by the institutions of power. Paul enrolled in a school that could not be seen with the eye, a school of the Spirit, rooted in the suffering of Jesus. There, each trial became a chapter. Each hardship, a textbook. Each persecution, a major exam. His was not a theoretical faith, but a lived theology carved out in prison cells, shipwrecks, beatings, and betrayal. Through it all, Paul learned to quiet the noise around him by tuning his heart to the eternal abundance within. Through mindful meditation, he cultivated a vision sharpened not by ambition, but by surrender. It was a vision clear enough to see beyond the fleeting gains and devastating losses that this world parades before us, a vision anchored in the presence of Christ, where peace is not circumstantial, but constant.

Joy is a gift from God worth fighting for. Yet it is also an emotion the enemy is eager to strangle from us. If we lose our joy, we lose our witness. This two-part class will explore the richness of joy from faith, nueroscience, and sociology, with the hope that we gain a greater understanding of the emotion that can sustain us through every season of life.
